At SXSW I attended a panel entitled ‘Storytelling in the Age of Virtual Worlds, Web3 and AI’, it was very interesting. I took notes and it raised many questions for me as I thought about my artistic practice going forward.
However as the weeks have passed what’s stood out most for me was a somewhat throwaway line from one of the panellists. Vince Kadlubek, founder of Meow Wolf, said “I am who I am becoming.” He said it in the context of defining the creative process.
The idea is particularly profound to me because of how we experience time. As human beings we experience time linearly, from past to present to future. We remember the past, live in the present, and imagine the future.
